It seems like Funko is everywhere these days.

They have done a great job getting their brand out there and including themselves in every major con or pop culture event. Good for them!

I’m not a Funko Pop or bobblehead guy, but for a long time I have had my eye on a certain 3 3/4 figure they released in 2017.

Like just about everything else relating to Action Comics #1, THE most iconic, important, influential comic cover of all time, it just looks great on Superman collectibles.

Although not famous for the action figures per se, Funko did release a first appearance Superman as part of their DC Legion of Collectors subscription package back then. Along with the usual “loot” items like t-shirts, keychains and stickers, this beautiful figure came in a Superman themed box and it is fantastic! It looks sufficiently retro and beautifully designed to fit with the zoomed cover image that makes up the card.

The figure looks nicely sculpted, colored, and articulated, but I couldn’t care less because I will never play with it. It looks too good in the package!

And may I also say that because of this zoomed in image, I learned something about Action Comics #1 that I hadn’t seen before…

… has anyone else ever noticed the blue shinguards Superman is wearing?? I hadn’t (unless it was a coloring mistake..?)!! And yes, they are sculpted on to the figure as well.

My only gripe with this toy is that the back cover art is from a Silver Age issue of Superman, decades after Action’s premiere. That said, it is a minor quibble as I am sure I’ll only be looking at the front of the box if I ever display it.

I have been looking for this figure online, and for a long time I couldn’t find it being sold for anything less than $25, a bit too pricey for me given its tiny size. A recent trip to my local comic book store last week, however, found two brand new, unpunched figures staring me directly in the face for $15, so I nabbed one instantly. Boy, am I glad I did!

I’m looking forward to keeping this next to my Action #1 Hot Wheels replica sedan I picked up last year. If you can find one of these figures for a good price, definitely grab it!
